Hannah
Woman of Persistent Prayer
Honest Longing
Scripture (NIV)
“I was pouring out my soul to the Lord.”
Message
Hannah prayed until her prayer had no polish left. God is not embarrassed by desperate prayer.
Practice
Pray for one thing you deeply want, using plain words and no religious phrasing.
Prayer
Lord, You know what I ache for. I am bringing it to You again. Amen.
Lived out
Short practices that fit Hannah's virtue of honest longing.
A practice to try
One word when there are no words
“There was a stretch when I could not pray in sentences. Grief took the language out of me. So I prayed one word at a time, 'help', 'stay', 'please', and left it at that. Nothing dramatic happened. But I kept showing up, and after a few weeks the sentences came back on their own.”
TRY TODAY
If prayer feels impossible today, pray one honest word and stop there. That counts.
“The Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”
Romans 8:26 (NIV)
A practice to try
Handing back what is not mine
“I write the worry on a scrap of paper, the actual worry in plain words, and put it in a jar on the shelf. It is not magic and the problem does not vanish. But I stop rehearsing it at 2am, because I have physically put it somewhere else and told God it is His to carry now.”
TRY TODAY
Write down one worry in one sentence, pray it once, and put the paper out of sight.
“Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”
1 Peter 5:7 (NIV)
